In 2005 and 2006, long before "near me" became one of the most-searched phrases online, Harry Engel and Michael Dorausch started registering NearMe domain names. On Google Trends, worldwide interest in the phrase was effectively zero then. Smartphones barely existed, and local search meant a phone book or a desktop map.
The founders were betting on a simple idea: one day people would search for local services exactly the way they talk. That conviction became NearMe Networks, LLC, which Harry and Michael have operated ever since.
The bet paid off. Google reported in 2015 that search interest in "near me" had grown 34 times since 2011, with 80% of those searches coming from mobile phones. See the research →
